The evergreen Gardenia tree adds eye appeal and fragrance to a home landscape or patio. The tree is attractive with glossy green foliage and white flowers that appear from mid-spring through late summer in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 8 through 10. Gardenia, also referred to as Cape Jasmine, is native to China and will reach a height of 2 to 8 feet, depending on the variety and care given. In colder hardiness zones, gardenia trees can either be treated as a annuals or planted in containers so it is easy to bring them indoors during the fall and winter months.
